youngsters from a community church went on a 40-hour famine last week, to raise awareness against hunger and homelessness. not only did they not eat, they also built shelters made of cardboard boxes outside the church to spend the night there. but when the frosty utah temperatures crept into their sleeping bags, most of them huddled up inside the church. i spent a couple of hours with them throughout the two days. whether this helps end hunger and homelessness almost didn't seem to be the point from my perspective. it was nice seeing them think about the issue and volunteer at a food bank and grow together for what they thought was important.
