the weather report read hot and humid and the poor kids fainted and vomited and cried by the dozens after crossing the finish line. and then they hugged and laughed and the parents cheered and the coaches yelled plus the gun went off and it was happy chaos all around.

i'm a staffer now

I accepted a job here today, after six weeks as an intern. I don't know if I'm just a lucky fraulein, or what. it'll be great. i know it.

funeral

of john carter, 33, who died in a plane crash in guatemala a couple of weeks ago. in # 5 his dad is taking a photo of john's two sons in front of his casket. that struck me. i think it was this beautiful gesture that this was a day to remember in their lives, not one to forget. that despite all the grief and sadness one day they'd want to look back.

with five children. dad heads out the door, mom fixes breakfast with the kids, dad comes back and drives kids to school, mom goes for a run. they drink protein shakes in between to stay fit. they had it figured out. pretty impressive...
